Between the Acts explores the roles individuals construct as they move through uncertainty, belief, and social identity. We often use the term “clown” to dismiss those perceived as wrong or out of step. This series reframes that idea, suggesting that performance is not separate from identity, but woven into everyday human experience.

Each figure is composed from layered photographs of natural landscapes. Visible edges and composite backgrounds reflect the accumulation of expectations and social identities over time. Within the clowns, the imagery remains clear and defined, creating a contrast between the figure and its surrounding layers.

Rather than rejecting performance, the work considers how deeply it shapes everyday identity. Set against environments that exist independently of human constructs, the figures suggest that stepping outside these roles may reveal a deeper connection to the world and to self.
